This piece was created by GGA
Director Sharron Tancred whilst in employment at CMA Advertising,
Brisbane and later sold at auction after being donated by CMA to the
RBFQ.
The frame was made with the
artist's instructions by the carpentry department of The Royal Blind
Foundation Queensland. It features a chaise lounge made out of solid
timber board with a circular pillow shape on top of that and curved
lounge frame around the upper extremities.
The mural was painted in
oils first then the collage materials were applied. Padding,
silk cloth, trim and tulle created Marlena's dress, while antique
embroidered shoes cut and pasted on gave her dainty feet.
Pearls carefully placed so as to fall on the base of the couch, an
exotic feather in her hair, a real cigar but and a straw for the
cigar holder, cotton wool for smoke and a pearl bracelet all added
to the illusion more depth than there is. Gold cord finished
off the chaise lounge and pillow whilst a matching tassel gives the
impression of real form on an otherwise flat board.
The mural was auctioned at a
gala evening for The Royal Blind Foundation of Queensland and bought
by Tom Lusch at Platypus Graphics for a very nice sum.
